University of South Florida junior RHP Daniel Thomas wasn’t expected to return for his senior year, so it wasn’t a big surprise that he signed with the Oakland Athletics, according to a press release from the big league organization.
A Gaither High graduate, Thomas, Oakland’s 13th-round selection in last month’s MLB draft, agreed to terms a week ago. Terms of the deal were not released, nor was the minor league affiliate for which Thomas was assigned.
Thomas went 2-4 with a 4.21 ERA in 12 games (10 starts) for USF this past season.

It seems like the A’s and the Yanks pay the most attention to USF baseball. So many of our professional players are with those two organizations. I wish Thomas the best of luck, but after watching him last year, I think that he has a lot of work to do on his mechanics and his mental approach to get past AA.
