TAMPA – The Bucs appear to have settled on a new quarterbacks coach.
According to an ESPN.com report citing an unnamed source, the Bucs have tagged former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt with the job of grooming Josh Freeman.
Van Pelt was in the running for the spot along with former Bears quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton and former Chiefs quarterbacks coach Terry Shea, among others.
Van Pelt spent 11 years playing in the NFL, the last 10 with the Buffalo Bills, and began his coaching career as a quarterbacks coach with the Frankfurt Galaxy of the World League of American Football.
He returned to the Bills in 2006 as an offensive quality control coach and became the Bills quarterbacks coach in 2008. He was the Bills offensive coordinator this past year, but was fired following Buffalo’s 6-10 season.
