The latest addition to USF’s 2010 recruiting class—Bradenton Lakewood Ranch offensive lineman Austin Reiter—wasn’t interested in following in the footsteps of his father.
Reiter’s father, Richard, played at Cincinnati and one of Reiter’s uncles played at Louisville according to Lakewood Ranch coach Shawn Trent.
Cincinnati, Louisville, Wake Forest and other schools not located in the Sunshine State showed interest in Reiter, a 6-foot-3, 255-pound lineman Trent called “the most athletic big kid I’ve ever coached.’‘
However, after a weekend visit to USF, Reiter informed USF assistant coach Carl Franks that he planned to sign with the Bulls. Reiter is expected to enroll in January and participate in spring football in March.
From his conversations with Franks, Trent expects USF to move Reiter from his tackle position into the interior of the line at either center or guard. Reiter also played on the defensive line at Lakewood Ranch but was recruited to be an offensive lineman by USF.
“He runs very, very well,’’ Trent said. “A lot of schools were recruiting him as a defensive lineman. He was a three-year starter and had pretty much all the state schools interested except the Big 3. I don’t think any of them had offered him.’‘
Trent said to his knowledge, Reiter is the first one of his former players to commit to USF. As a senior, Reiter was the anchor of an offensive line that started three sophomores. Trent says if Reiter continues to get taller and adds more weight, he can see him playing left tackle, considered the prime spot for athletic offensive linemen in the NFL and college.
Reiter is the 13th verbal commitment the Bulls have received for the Class of 2010. USF coach Jim Leavitt and his staff are on the road recruiting today and Tuesday, focusing primarily on in-state players.

I am sure he is a great kid, smart and a good football player but at 255 I don’t see him playing on the O-line. I hope he develops as much as his coaches say he can and that he puts on another 30 to 40 pounds…we need some big-heavies up front.
Scott….can you provide us with any info about any of the high target recruits USF is hoping to land?
Thanks.

Hector
He will probably redshirt his first year and put on weight. As long as he likes getting dirty and shoving people around, that seems to be more in short supply around here.
Welcome Austin !!!
