USF outfielder and Jesuit High product Stephen Hunt was selected in Tuesday’s MLB draft by the Cincinnati Reds in the 15th round (457th overall).
Hunt has flashed a big bat for the Bulls in his first three collegiate seasons, hitting a combined .299 with 18 home runs and 133 RBIs. This past season, Hunt hit .307 with seven homers and 44 RBIs.
Hunt, however, was listed as a left-handed pitcher with the Reds’ selection. He made 24 appearances on the mound for USF as a freshman but has made just eight since, including only one (for one inning) in 2010.
This is the second time Hunt has been selected in baseball’s amateur draft. He was a 17th round pick by the Oakland Athletics out of high school in 2007, where he also was drafted as a pitcher.
