ST. PETERSBURG— Reid Brignac, last night’s hero with the walk-off home run, finds himself in the lineup tonight and starting at shortstop.

Joe Maddon said that has more to do with how Jason Bartlett matches up against Phil Hughes, who starts Wednesday for the Yankees, than Brignac being rewarded for his game-winning blast.

Maddon said he was going to give Bartlett off Wednesday so, with Thursday’s off day, the shortstop would get two days off. But Maddon crunched some numbers and feels Bartlett is better suited to face Hughes than Brignac.

Carlos Pena continues to slide down the order. The slumping first baseman is batting seventh tonught against Yankee rookie Ivan Nova.

Maddon has RF Matt Joyce and DH Dan Johnson batting ahead of Pena, who is 2-for his last 38 (.053) since he homered Aug. 30 off Tononto’s Brett Cecil.

Maddon isn’t sure if Joaquin Benoit or Rafael Soriano are available tonight.

Nick Swisher and Jorge Posada are not in the Yankees lineup.
