ST. PETERSBURG While they continue with the “one game at a time” mantra, the Rays are well aware of the fact they could be tied for the Wild Card lead by the end of today.
That can only happen if the Red Sox are swept by the Yankees in their doubleheader at Yankee Stadium and the Rays take care of business at the Trop against the Blue Jays.
The Rays begin the day 1 ½ games behind the Red Sox, who have been pathetic during these past few weeks and who are throwing John Lackey and Tim Wakefield against the Yankees. Of course, the Yankees aren’t trotting out a Bomber-like lineup so, who knows?
What we know is this: The Rays can’t afford anymore losses.
Wade Davis starts today for the Rays intent on making up for his poor outing last Tuesday against the Yankees.
