ST. PETERSBURG We’ll know later this evening whether to praise the dome for allowing the Rays-Royals to play tonight or curse it for preventing a rainout.
An ugly afternoon outside, but inside it is 72 degrees and dry.
Some of the Rays took early BP this afternoon, including Jose Lobaton, who drilled one into the touch tank.
James Shields goes for his 11th win tonight. He’s trying to win back-to-back starts for the first time since June 19 and June 24.
The Royals are throwing lefty Jeff Francis, which means Ben Zobrist moves to right field, Sean Rodriguez moves over to second base and Elliot Johnson comes off the bench to play shortstop.
Here is the Rays lineup:
Jennings LF
Damon DH
Longoria 3B
Zobrist RF
Kotchman 1B
Upton CF
Rodriguez 2B
Shoppach C
Johnson SS
—
Shields (10-8, 2.95)
