Rays center fielder B.J. Upton injured his left ankle after a warning-track collision with Carl Crawford in the top of the fifth inning. Upton leapt in the air for the ball and rolled over his ankle as he came down.
Upton was down on the track, writhing in pain, for several minutes while being tended to by Rays trainer Ron Porterfield. He eventually got to his feet and walked slowly off the field.
Ben Zobrist moved to center field to replace him, with Akinori Iwamura entering the game to play second base.
