The Tampa Bay Rays will host a free coaches clinic as part of the team’s youth baseball training program at 10 a.m. on Jan. 16 at Tropicana Field.
“Learn How to Play the Rays Way” Coaches Clinic is open to all youth league coaches.
The clinic provides an opportunity to learn from a major league coaching staff and will feature professional advice and instruction from members of the Rays major league and minor league coaching staffs and Eckerd College head baseball coach Bill Mathews. Rays third base coach Tom Foley, pitching coach Jim Hickey, hitting coach Derek Shelton and minor league field coordinator Bill Evers will provide instruction to the youth league coaches.
The clinic will consist of six stations with each consisting of a lecture and live demonstrations on techniques and drills. The Rays coaches will also conduct a question-and-answer session.
In addition, representatives from St. Anthony’s Sports Medicine will provide tips and instructions on injury prevention.
Enrollment is limited and coaches are encouraged to register on raysbaseball.com. Attendees should park in Lot 6 or 7 and enter Gate 1.
