The Rays signed free agent infielder Hank Blalock to a minor league deal late Monday night.
The team wouldn’t comment other than to say the deal was complete, but Jon Heyman of SI.com reported that the deal was worth $925,000 with another $400,000 in incentives.
The left-handed hitting Blalock is expected to report to camp Tuesday morning.
There really isn’t any room on the roster for Blalock right now, but he will add depth at the third base and first base at Triple A Durham.
Blalock was a two-time All-Star with the Rangers, whose career was slowed by injuries during the 2007 and 2008 seasons that limited him to 123 games over the two seasons.
Blalock hit 25 home runs in 495 at-bats over 123 games last season, his highest totals for each catagory since the 2006 season.
