NEW YORK—According to the Durham Bulls’ official Twitter account, the Rays have called up veteran first baseman Chris Richard.
I guess that means Carlos Pena is hurting a bit.
Nothing official yet from the team.
Updating: The Rays now say they are planning to call Richard up, hoping he’ll be here for tonight’s game. Apparently Andrew Friedman will address the matter between games.
Richard, 35, has 267 big-league games on his resume but hasn’t been in the majors since 2003, when he played 19 games for the Rockies.
