ST. PETERSBURG—The Game That Would Not End, also known as Game 2 of the American League Championship Series, ticked toward the five-hour mark after a scoreless 10th inning tonight at Tropicana Field left the Rays and Red Sox tied at 8-8.
Rays reliever Dan Wheeler set the Red Sox down in order in the top of the 10th, striking out Dustin Predroia and getting David Ortiz to pop up before Kevin Youkilis sent a drive to center field that B.J. Upton caught at the warning track.
Jonathan Papelbon did the same to the Rays in the bottom of the 10th, retiring Evan Longoria, Carl Crawford and Willy Aybar in order.
