ARLINGTON, Texas Desmond Jennings is back at the top of the order tonight for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Rangers.
Rays manager Joe Maddon said he was pleased with Jennings’s at-bats in Friday’s 9-0 win, including the single that snapped a 0-for-27 drought.
Maddon announced David Price will start Game 3 on Monday and Jeremy Hellickson will start Game 4. The Game 3 starter will start the first game of the ALDS, so Maddon said that played into the decision.
James Shields gets another shot at the Rangers in the ALDS, having taken the loss in Game 2 of the 2010 ALDS.
This is the third start against the Rangers in a month for Shields, who threw eight shutout innings against them here on Aug. 31 and tossed his 11th complete game of the season Sept. 5 at the Trop.
The Rangers are starting Derek Holland, who tied Shields for the American League lead in complete games with four.
A Rays win and they take a 2-0 lead back to the Trop for Monday’s Game 3.
