PORT CHARLOTTE - The Rays’ lineup for their spring opener tomorrow against the Orioles in Sarasota is already posted.
Shortstop Jason Bartlett will lead off, followed by catcher Dioner Navarro, second baseman Ben Zobrist, center fielder B.J. Upton, right fielder Matt Joyce, designated hitter Kelly Shoppach, third baseman Dan Johnson, first baseman Ryan Shealy and left fielder Justin Ruggiano. James Shields will start and pitch one inning, followed by fellow righty Matt Garza, who will pitch two innings.
Regular first baseman Carlos Pena, third baseman Evan Longoria and left field Carl Crawford will play in the home opener Thursday. Shoppach will catch on Thursday.
As for today’s intrasquad game, the Rays got a break in the weather and were able to get it in.
