DUNEDIN—Heading into the ninth inning, the Rays lead the Toronto Blue Jays 14-8 at Dunedin Stadium.
Rays starter Wade Davis, who settled down after two shaky opening innings, worked 5 2/3, allowing 10 hits, four earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
Starter-turned-reliever Andy Sonnanstine was one strike away from escaping a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning, which would have given him two scoreless innings, but he then surrendered a double and single, which let in four runs.
Rays 3B Evan Longoria was 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and two singles.
Rays DH B.J. Upton was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and double.
Rays C Kelly Shoppach was 2-for-4 with two doubles.
