TORONTO—James Shields returns to Rogers Centre for the first time since allowing six home runs in one game to the Blue Jays, an event that landed him in the record books for trying a modern major league record.
Shields said he’s not concerned about that. He’s only concerned about keeping the Rays in the hunt for the division title.
The Yankees, who have a 2.5 game lead over the Rays, are in Texas. The Red Sox, 6.5 games behind the Rays in the Wild Card standings, are in Oakland.
The Rays, 2-4 on this road trip, are looking to take care of business this weekend and take some momentum into the Trop on Monday when they open a three-game series against the Yankees.
