Rays-Indians lineup and more

Fortunately, the Rays won’t be facing Hall of Famer Bob Feller tonight. They’ll take on Mitch Talbot, who spent two-plus seasons in the Tampa Bay organization and pitched mostly at Triple-A Durham. Feller, who is honored with a statue just outside of Progressive Field, is the Indians’ all-time winningest pitcher. He threw three no-hitters, led the American League in strikeouts seven times and once threw a fastball clocked at 107.6 mph.

CLEVELAND - The Rays will try it again tonight after suffering their 18th consecutive loss at Cleveland’s Progressive Field on Friday night, 3-1 in a game called after 6 1/2 innings because of rain.

Despite managing only one hit in the loss, the Rays did not take batting practice on the field tonight. Hitting in the batting cage was optional.

“We’ve been on a hot road trip,” Manager Joe Maddon said, explaining his reasoning. “We’re on the road. We were here all day yesterday because we had early hitting. We were here from, like, 1 p.m. to, like 1 a.m., so it was a good day to back it off a little bit on the back side of a road trip.”

“I’m a big believer that batting practice is way overrated. I don’t think it’s necessary on a daily baisis. I believe there are other ways to get loose. I belive hitters swing way too much. I believe if today’s hitter understood how to swing less, or take less practice swings, they could be more producitive.”

Here is tonight’s Rays lineup:

Ben Zobrist, RF
Carl Crawford, LF
Evan Longoria, 3B
Carlos Pena, 1B
Matt Joyce, DH
Sean Rodriguez, 2B
B.J. Upton, CF
Kelly Shoppach, C
Jason Bartlett, SS

David Price, LHP
