Rays go for series win vs. Angels

ST. PETERSBURG Manager Joe Maddon is giving some regulars a day off and stacking his lineup with right-handed hitters for this afternoon’s series finale against the Angels and ex-Tampa Bay ace Scott Kazmir.

Top outfield prospect Desmond Jennings gets a start at center field for B.J. Upton and will lead off. Rocco Baldelli is in at DH, Sean Rodriguez at second base, Brad Hawpe at first base (for Carlos Pena) and Kelly Shoppach at catcher. Carl Crawford and Hawpe are the only lefty hitters in the lineup (Ben Zobrist is a switch-hitter.)

After splitting the first two games of the series, the Rays will try to avoid losing a series at home for the first time since dropping two of three to Arizona in late June. They’ll have to avoid looking ahead to this week’s four-game AL East showdown with the Yankees in New York.
