DUNEDIN—Third baseman Evan Longoria hit a towering two-run home run to left field, highlighting the Rays’ three-run first inning against the Toronto Blue Jays at Dunedin Stadium.
The Rays scored their first run when shortstop Jason Bartlett led off with a double. He was sacrificed to third on Carl Crawford’s bunt, then scored on Gabe Kapler’s single. Longoria followed with his homer against Jays starter Shaun Marcum.
B.J. Upton, playing today at designated hitter, is wearing No. 95 instead of his usual No. 2. Upton made the trip to Dunedin separately and his jersey was inadvertantly not packed.
Again, bottom of the first inning, it’s Rays 3, Jays 0.
