The Rays are bringing the varsity to Tampa tonight to face the Yankees in the first game of a home-and-home series against their AL East Rivals.
It is Matt Garza’s turn to throw, but rather than give the Yankees a look at what changes he might have in store this season, Garza remained at Charlotte Sports Park and pitched six innings in a Triple A game. His line: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 HBP.
One thing to keep an eye on: Will Carlos Pena get his first of the spring? Pena is 0-for-21.
Carlos Hernandez, who is destined to begin another season at Triple Durham, will start tonight against the Bombers.
Here is the Rays lineup:
Jason Bartlett SS
Carl Crawford LF
Ben Zobrist RF
Carlos Pena 1B
Willy Aybar 3B
B.J. Upton CF
Pat Burrell DH
Sean Rodriguez 2B
Dioner Navarro C
Carlos Herandez P
