The Rays get their first of many looks at the defending World Series champions this afternoon at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa.
“Of course they’re the world champs, but we’re still going to play like we do all our other spring training games,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said. “Everyone is going to get in, limited at-bats, we’re going to move it around. There’s no special little star on my calendar that we’re playing the Yankees. Just getting ready for the season.”
Maybe so, but Maddon brought a lot of the varsity – Evan Longoria, Jason Bartlett, Ben Zobrist, B.J. Upton, Dioner Navarro are in the lineup.
Davis Price makes his first start of the spring.
Sean Rodriguez will try to show Maddon what he can do as an outfielder. He’s starting in left field.
Highly touted pitching prospect Jeremy Hellickson will make his debut for the Rays.
Here is the Rays lineup:
Jason Bartlett SS
Sean Rodriguez LF
Evan Longoria 3B
Ben Zobrist 2B
B.J. Upton CF
Dioner Navarro C
Dan Johnson DH
Justin Ruggiano RF
Chris Richard 1B
David Price P
