OAKLAND The Rays are back at The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum since, well, we remember what happened the last time the Rays played here.
Dallas Braden became only the 19th pitcher in major league history to throw a perfect game when he did it against the Rays on Mother’s Day. The Rays will see Braden again during this series. That will be during Sunday’s finale when he’s matched against Matt Garza. That’s only the second time since 1991 that two pitchers who have thrown a no-hitter or perfect game opposed each other in the same season.
Roy Halladay and Edwin Jackson did it last month.
Before that it was Wilson Alvarez and Nolan Ryan in ‘91.
Anyway, that’s for Sunday.
Tonight, or late tonight, it’s Andy Sonnanstine against Trevor Cahill, who is 7-2 with a 1.66 ERA in 10 starts at home this season. Another thing to keep in mind: Cahill has allowed just one run in the first inning this season.
