Rays acquire minor league OF John Shelby Jr.

the Rays added some outfield depth to their minor league system Tuesday by acquiring John Shelby Jr., from the White Sox in exchange for cash.


Shelby batted 249/.293/.412 in 440 plate appearances at Double-A last year when he hit 11 home runs and drove in 43 RBI. He will likely play at Double A Montgomery this season.

Shelby, whose dad John played in the major leagues, has a .273 career overage over five minor league seasons.
