the Rays added some outfield depth to their minor league system Tuesday by acquiring John Shelby Jr., from the White Sox in exchange for cash.

Shelby batted 249/.293/.412 in 440 plate appearances at Double-A last year when he hit 11 home runs and drove in 43 RBI. He will likely play at Double A Montgomery this season.

Shelby, whose dad John played in the major leagues, has a .273 career overage over five minor league seasons.
