ROGER MOONEY
ST. PETERSBURG The Rays continue to pour on the runs during this homestand.
Friday’s 8-4 victory against the A’s gave them at least seven runs in three consecutive games for the first time since June 6-9, 2010.
Friday’s victory also gave the Rays their first three-game winning streak since they won four during the last week in June.
Here are some odds and ends from the win:
—The Rays are now 40-7 when scoring at least five runs.
—The win was the sixth time this season they managed to score at least seven runs without hitting a home run. Only Oakland and Kansas City, with eight each, have done it more times.
—B.J. Upton is 5-for-9 in his last two games and has reached base in his last seven plate appearances after going 7-for-59 in his 15 games prior to Thursday’s game.
—Evan Longoria has seven RBI in his last eight games despite getting only four hits.
—Winning pitcher Jeff Niemann has allowed eight runs in his last five starts, with five of them coming on home runs. He is now 5-0 in his eight starts since coming off the disabled list.
—Matt Joyce stole his 10th base. He joined Upton and Ben Zobrist as the only Rays with at least 10 steals and 10 home runs this season.
—Zobrist hit his major league-leading 35th double.
—Former Ray Grant Balfour returned to the Trop for the first time this season and had his scoreless streak of 14 2/3 innings snapped. That matched his career-high set with the 2008 Rays.
—A’s DH Hideki Matsui extended his hitting streak to 13 games.
—With the Go-Go’s playing postgame, the win improved the Rays to 27-5 on concert nights.
