Florida senior running back Chris Rainey was named to the Hornung Award Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for his 233 all-purpose yards in Saturday’s 33-23 win against Tennessee.
The weekly recognition honors versatile, single-game performances around the nation by FBS student-athletes.
Rainey ran for 108 yards, caught passes for another 104 and blocked his school record fifth career punt attempt.
He leads UF in rushing with 306 yards after three games, an average of 6.4 per attempt, and in receiving with 11 catches for 214 yards. He has a total of four touchdowns
Also, Rainey and South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore shared SEC offensive player of the week honors and Gators kicker Caleb Sturgis was the league’s special teams player of the week. Lattimore rushed for a career-high 246 yards on 37 carries in the Gamecocks’ 24-21 win against Navy.
Sturgis, who has made all nine of his field goal attempts this season, scored a career-high 15 points with four field goals and three point-after touchdowns in the Gators’ win.
