Hillsborough County:

Raiders Duo Hoping For Increased Interest

Plant City teammates Denzel Drone and Duran Lowe have gotten their fair share of attention from college recruiters thus far, but the two senior defensive standouts are hoping for a bit more.

As of now, Lowe, a safety, holds scholarship offers from Wake Forest, Florida Atlantic, USF and Central Michigan. Drone, a two-year starter on the defensive line who will be moved to outside linebacker this season, holds offers from Troy and Western Kentucky.

“Right now, I’ve got a pretty good amount,” said Lowe, who added Tennessee has been showing some interest lately. “But you always want more colleges looking at you no matter who you are.”

Earlier this summer, the two main national recruiting services – Rivals.com and Scout.com – each listed Lowe as a Wake Forest commitment. He was mum on the subject until earlier this week, when he cleared the air in regards to where he stands in his recruitment.

“It wasn’t a hard verbal commitment [to Wake Forest], like people say they are a solid commit like they aren’t talking [to other schools],” Lowe said. “It was like a soft verbal commitment, letting them know at that point in time that was my main interest in school, and it still is. As far as out of state, that would be my main interest.”

Right now, Lowe considers his recruitment open, though he said Wake Forest coaches have showed the most interest. He added he grew up watching in-state programs Florida, Florida State and Miami, and expressed an interest to wanting to play collegiately in his home state. If one of those schools were to pull the trigger and extend a scholarship offer, he said there’s a good chance he would accept it.

Drone, on the other hand, is hoping to improve his score on the ACT college entrance exam, which he thinks will lead to a few more schools jumping on board in the recruiting process. He said he’s scheduled to take the test again in early September and if things turn out how he expects, more offers should start to roll in.
