Hey folks, I was out of pocket yesterday but will be heading over to USF’s second practice shortly.
Hopefully you saw Phil Neary’s practice report on TBO.com, but if not, click here.
We’ve still got three more questions to go on my list of 10 questions surrounding the Bulls entering the season.
With that said, I want to see what you think about Question No. 3: How important is Evan Landi to this team?
I’m writing a story on Landi’s potential impact in Sunday’s Tampa Tribune, but I’ll go ahead and tell you that I think Landi can play a huge role for the Bulls this season.
First, he’s the back-up quarterback, so if B.J. Daniels goes down, Landi will get the call.
At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, Landi offers a much different look than Daniels, and I’m not just talking about the fact he is a left-hander.
In spring practice, Skip Holtz and Co. quickly realized that Landi was the second-best quarterback on the roster despite his wish to play receiver. Landi performed well in the spring game – hitting 11 of 24 passes for 152 yards. He also caught a 57-yard touchdown pass from third-string QB Ryan Eppes.
With the departure of Carlton Mitchell and injuries to A.J. Love and Sterling Griffin, Landi enters practice as one of the Bulls’ top receivers.
I can see Holtz using him in a lot of different ways based on the way Holtz talks about Landi’s versatility and his mental approach.
What do you think? Will he be integral to this team’s success, or am I putting too much stock in his importance?

I think you will see him used as a receiver the most but at times he will be a QB on special packages.

Evan will be a fan favorite. I predict he throws a touchdown on special teams and catches a couple touchdowns on offense.

Evan definitely has a lot riding on his shoulders given that he is our number two quarterback and probably a starting wide receiver. As Rizman says, we hopefully will only see him at quarterback for special package plays. Where we really need to see him shine this year is at wide receiver. And no, I don’t think your are putting too much stock in his importance.

I think we’re all hoping that he doesn’t play much at all at QB—hoping Gunsby comes along quickly as a very occasional backup and in cleanup situations. We’ve only got one QB with any experience at all, and our #2 seems to be a starting WR. Could be a big problem.

Scott, I think your right on!
Suggest removalWe can not just assume that Gundy is going to come right in take the reigns in the event, (God forbid)that Daniels gets hurt. For one, Gundy does not have any experience by just coming out of high school. Evan on the other hand has been playing on the college level and is a very talented Quarterback of which gives him a huge edge.
Does this mean he will not play the WR position? By no means. Ithink we will see Evan in the Wildcat formation, Double reverse, etc…...
