TAMPA - The decision to release Brent Bowden and re-sign him to the practice squad doesn’t mean the rookie punter is no longer a part of the Bucs plans for this season. In fact, there’s still a chance Bowden will be part of the Bucs plans for their season opener Sunday against the Browns.
Bucs coach Raheem Morris suggested Thursday that Bowden and newcomer Chris Bryan will compete all season long for the right to punt on Sundays.
“You’ve always got to say that, because we’ve drafted (Bowden in the sixth round) and he did a pretty good job with his inside the red zone punts (during the preseason),’’ Morris said. “We’d just like to see a little more punch, and if he’s able to come in here and provide that, you never know.’’
