Say it ain’t so! T.O. had to go! Drew Rosenhaus says that potential suitors are lining up to be the next stop for Terrell’s Circus. I’ll bet they’re lining up. Just like they were lining up for Manny Ramirez in MLB last week. While all the news is coming out of Dallas this day, what do you say I give you a little Pigskin Preaching NFC East style, as the first stop on my Around the League tour.
East Rutherford Giants ~ This, my friends, might be a legit landing spot for T.O. No, I’m not kidding. An owner who doesn’t meddle; a coach who everyone hates already; a QB who has shown a thick skin and who can toss the ball a mile… I’m just saying. If T.O. was going to fit anywhere (other than Oakland), this might be it. But the Giants have been quietly adding beef to their defensive line through free agency. Chris Canty will come in as a hole stuffer from Dallas. Wow! See there? Already a friend for T.O. The loss of Derrick Ward and his thousand yard contribution will hurt, but the G-men still have big Brandon and little Bradshaw to tote the rock. They’re thinking three’s a crowd, I suppose. You have to wonder about Plaxico Burress. When he’s not blowing off meetings or shooting himself, he is a great playmaker. I’m telling you: T.O. Send Plaxico to Oakland.
Philadelphia Eagles ~ Who is it? The Eagles that stunk so bad that they pulled Donovan McNabb out and turned to Kevin Kolb? Or, is it the Eagles that dominated Dallas in primetime? The problem with the Eagles is inconsistency. One week they’re running Andy Reid and DMac out of town. The next week they’re talking about the two like they’re the team’s Saviors. Balance is what is lacking. In Philly, his name is Brian Westbrook. If they ever get the man to stay healthy and on his wheels for a whole season, you’ll be amazed how good Philly is. As for free-agency so far, they’re losing more than they’re gaining. Brian Dawkins departure will hurt, for his heart and leadership if for nothing else. Mark my words.
Dallas Showgirls ~ That, my friends, is the real problem in Dallas. It wasn’t just T.O. Although, it was in many ways T.O. The Cowboys need to come back down to earth. They started believing their own press. They started thinking they were such a sure thing that they can drink Tequila in Cabo on Saturday and go out and win a football game in Philly on Sunday. Oops! They need to stop worrying about their endorsements and what Hollywood bimbo they can be photographed with, and come back to the Xs and Os. Canning Pacman and T.O. was a start. Now, someone crack a whip! That’s Cowboy talk. Granting Roy Williams’ request to be released was merciful. Have you watched him the last couple of years? Painful to watch in passing situations. His career? Should be riding off into the sunset.
Washington Redskins ~ Richy Rich (the teenage owner of the Redskins, Daniel Snyder) is at it again. Who gave the kid his wallet back? A gazillion dollars for Haynesworth and a bajillion for DeAngelo Hall. They’re on record saying they don’t have interest in T.O. But come on. Do you believe them? Write a check Mr. Snyder. Consider this: they just axed Jason Taylor who they will still be paying for a year from now, and who cost them two draft picks this April. He certainly was a long haul player. Was it worth it Mr. Snyder? What snafu do you pull off next? I’ll bet he’s talking to Brett Favre. T.O. Steve Spurrier. All of ‘em.
I’ll be interested to see what these three teams do in the coming month, free-agent and draft wise. As it stands now, they look about the same going into next season as they ended this past year. Your thoughts?
