Plenty of tickets remain for tonight’s tilt

Need tickets for tonight’s Rays-Yankees game at Tropicana Field? Well, you are in luck.

Plenty of tickets remain for the opener of this important three-game series between the top-two teams in the major leagues, who are separated by a half-game in the standings.

And plenty of tickets remain for Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s night games at the Trop.

As of mid-afternoon Monday, a Rays official said tickets are available in all price ranges, starting from $18 upper reserve to $270 Home Plate Club seats.

Tickets on stubhub.com were selling from $9 to $675.

Based on the fact the Rays-Yankees sold-out three games at the Trop July 30-Aug 1, the Rays were hoping to sellout or come close to sellouts during this series, especially considering the tight race for the division title – the Yankees lead the Rays by half a game – and tonight’s marquee match-up of the Rays 17-game winner David Price against the Yankees 19-game winner CC Sabathia.

The team won’t say what kind of a crowd it expects tonight or the next two nights.

Price said last week he would be disappointed if the Trop wasn’t full or close to being full tonight.

“In a baseball sense that would be almost unbelievable,” Rays manager Joe Maddon said before Sunday’s game in Toronto.
Maddon added that he was aware of the current economic climate and the “myriad of reasons” why the Rays are not among the top teams in attendance despite fielding one of the best teams in baseball.

That said, he added, “it’s about supporting your group, how much that matters and how much it matters looking down the road.”

Tickets can be purchase at Tropicana Field, or by calling 888-326-7297 or by looking on to raysbaseball.com or raysbeisbol.com.
