Plant coach Robert Weiner may have to pull a Joe Pa and coach from the press box Friday night.

Weiner said he hasn’t decided where he will be when the Panthers take on Jesuit in the regular season opener. He’s still in the process of getting his injury evaluated.

The Plant head coach sustained a serious injury as the team ran out of the tunnel before their Kickoff Classic against Miami Columbus last Friday night. Weiner tripped, twisted his right ankle and landed on his left knee. After getting his knee drained in the locker room, Weiner watched the game from a golf cart.

The damage so far is a bursa sac rupture and pre-patella bursitis - in other words, a bloody, inflamed knee. The good news, his knee cap was not fractured. He will be re-evaluated in the next couple of days. Weiner said he will either have the knee drained again or have surgery to remove all the blood. As for the ankle, Weiner’s going to have X-rays early this week to determine the extent of damage.

Fairly immobile now and getting around on crutches, Weiner said he’ll wait and see where he’ll coach from Friday night.
