The Plant boys swim team needed a victory in the final event Thursday night to edge out Newsome and got it.

Two of the top teams in Hillsborough County needed the last event to settle who was the best. Plant’s 400 freestyle relay team of Giakomo Rosso, Kieffer Jordan, John Deedrick and Joel Douglas Rodgers finished first to give the Panthers a 111-110 victory against Newsome at the Bobby Hicks Pool.

Plant’s boys finished first in six of the 12 events, including two by Deedrick in the 200 and 500 free. Tim Foster was a double winner for the Wolves in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Plant’s girls defeated Newsome, 121-103, winning eight of the 12 events, including two by freshman Emma Donohue in the 200 free and 100 breaststroke.

Donohue set a new school record with her time of 1:08.98 in the breaststroke.
