Allen Sampson was sold on Hawaii, and not just the surf and sand.

Plant’s leading receiver committed to the University of Hawaii on Monday, Plant coach Robert Weiner said, a day after he returned from an official visit to the campus. Sampson also had offers from Division I-AA schools Delaware, Georgia Southern, Murray State and Southern Illinois.
Sampson, a Tribune All-County Football first team selection, led the Panthers this past season with 39 receptions for for 671 yards and eight touchdowns. He also had three returns for touchdowns, averaging 11.30 yards on punt returns and 37.38 yards on kickoffs and had two interceptions.
“Allen is one of the most electric players that I’ve ever seen,” Weiner said. “He is the kind of player that makes you stop coaching and start watching like an excited spectator. And to top it off, he is an even better human being.”
