Plant’s Pita commits to HCC
Plant senior right-hander Sergio Pita has committed to Hillsborough Community College, Panthers coach Dennis Braun said Wednesday.
Pita went 8-1 with a 1.44 ERA this season as the Panthers’ No. 3 starter. Pita was at his best when it mattered most - during the Panthers’ run to the Class 5A state tournament.
Pita tossed 6 2/3 quality innings to beat Jesuit in the Class 5A-District 10 championship, and followed it up with a complete-game victory over Punta Gorda Charlotte in the decisive Game 3 of Plant’s regional final series.
