Plant senior quarterback James Few, a first team all-Hillsborough County selection by the Tampa Tribune, has been offered by Lehigh University and this weekend will make an official visit to that school, as well as Cornell University, Panthers coach Robert Weiner confirmed Tuesday.

Few has owned an offer from Cornell for several weeks now but the Lehigh pitch came recently from the Mountain Hawks football staff. Lehigh competes in the Patriot League and is eligible for NCAA’s Football Championship Series.

Cornell, meanwhile, is an Ivy League school that plays a 10-game season. Both schools are among the top-rated colleges in the nation. Few will head to Leigh in Bethlehem, Pa., Thursday to meet with the football staff there, then head to Cornell on Saturday.

Few is one of the county’s most accomplished athletes on and off the field.

He holds a weighted grade point average of 6.12 (3.88 unweighted) and is projected to graduate among the top of his class at Plant. On the field, Few was one of the state’s most improved players last season. Facing tough competition from several other quarterbacks on the Panthers’ roster, Few didn’t own the starting job coming into the 2011 campaign. But before it ended, he passed for 2,513 yards and 29 TDs with a 65 percent completion rate en route to Plant’s fourth state title.

With that state title, Few joined Robert Marve (Purdue), Aaron Murray (Georgia) and Phillip Ely (Alabama) as a state-champion Plant signal-caller. In the state championship game against Miramarm he displayed plenty of poise, rushing for 57 yards, scoring a touchdown, passed for 51 yards and generally had Plant in the right play all game.
