Following a weekend visit to Oregon’s campus, Eric Dungy decided to become a Duck.

Plant coach Robert Weiner confirmed that the Panthers defensive back/wide receiver verbally committed to Oregon on Monday. Rivals.com first reported that Dungy chose the Ducks over USF, FSU and Louisville.

Dungy, a Tribune All-Hillsborough County Football second team selection this past season, came on strong for the Panthers during their second-consecutive state championship run. He led the team with five interceptions and also had 24 receptions for 340 yards and two touchdowns.

Two of Dungy biggest plays last year came against Lakeland, where he helped seal victory with an interception, and in the state title game against Manatee where a key first down reception in the fourth quarter secured the victory.

“It’s an outstanding opportunity for him,” Weiner said. “I think its a great math. Eric’s a kid that eats and sleeps football and loves it and that’s a place that loves football. He’s a tremendous kid that has amazing instincts. And I really think he’s just scratching the surface and that he has all of his best football in front of him.”
