Plant defensive back Antonio Crawford has been committed to Georgia Tech University since July. But after receiving an invitation to visit the University of Miami by Hurricanes coach Al Golden during a trip to the Plant campus Wednesday, Crawford decided to take him up on the offer and head to Coral Gables today.
When Tech coach Paul Johnson got wind of this, he clearly was not happy. In fact, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Johnson has essentially told the 5-foot-11, 180-pound Crawford he could lose his scholarship offer from the Yellow Jackets if he takes the visit to UM. Crawford told the AJC that said Johnson said “If you’re looking around, then we’re looking around. He (Johnson) said if I take my visit to Miami, they are bringing in a guy at Georgia Tech this weekend for a visit.”
And if the other Tech recruit commits, he takes Crawford’s spot.
Crawford, who saw most of his action in the defensive secondary but played a significant role on the offense, says he is still taking the trip to Coral Gables today. He has other offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Florida International, Iowa State, Ohio and South Alabama.
Other recruits who have committed to schools often still take official visits to other schools. Jefferson defensive end Tyriq McCord, for example, is visiting the University of Southern California this weekend even though he has already committed to Miami.
