Plant’s bid for a virtual national championship fell short on Tuesday when they were bounced from the Massey Virtual National Championship.

Kentucky’s Highlands High defeated the Panthers 20-7 in the second round of the computer simulated tournament. Plant won in the first day of the competition on Monday with a 12-7 victory against South Carolina’s Dorman High.
Just like Plant, Highlands won their Class 5A state championship last month.
Sponsored by Massey and USA Today, the tournament began on Monday with 64 teams from across the country contending in a computer simulation similar to models used to create the BCS rankings. One state champion from each of the 50 states was selected and then 14 at-large teams filled out the bracket.
