The Plant High School football team received a certificate of commendation from the Hillsborough County Commission on Thursday before its meeting. Ken Hagan, chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, cited Plant’s exemplary performance of winning four state championships in the past six seasons, including a 31-20 victory against Miramar in the Class 8A title game last December.
“What an incredible record,’’ Hagan said. “It’s almost getting to be a habit, something you expect every year. But we all know how hard this is to accomplish and this program should be congratulated.’’
Plant coach Robert Weiner accepted the commendation. He brought along four senior players—James Few, Antonio Crawford, Patrick Wright and Daniel Casselli.
“We are honored to be here,’’ Weiner said. “We are honored to represent this community. The things I tell my guys all the time are to find something you’re passionate about, be it football or something else. Surround yourself with the people you love. Then go about being the best at what you do. My guys have strived to do that and they deserve to be recognized. And it’s an honor to be recognized by this community because that’s who we represent.’‘
