Plant City rising junior quarterback Bennie Coney has been invited to attend the Super 7 Maui retreat, a quarterback camp event that is part of the Steve Clarkson Dreammaker Tour.
Raiders coach Jason Strunk confirmed Coney’s selection Wednesday afternoon, adding Coney is the first underclassmen to receive an invite. Plant City’s signal caller will be in Maui July 1-5. Among the guest instructors scheduled to participate, according to the event’s website, are NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks Joe Montana and Warren Moon and current Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart, a former Heisman Trophy winner.
“What a great honor,” Strunk said via text message about Coney’s selection.
Coney had twice competed in quarterback events as part of the Dreammaker Tour. The first stage was held in Orlando, and the second was held in Santa Barbara, Calif.
