Plant and Berkeley Prep volleyball, the top two programs in Hillsborough County, will play each other in a preseason match at Venice High, Aug, 24th at 5 p.m.
Plant is the four-time defending state champion and Berkeley Prep, which has won 13 overall titles, captured its first 3A state title last season. Both teams received national rankings last season. Plant ended the season at No. 6 in ESPN’s Fab 50 and No. 6 in PrepVolleyball.com’s National 100. Berkeley Prep was No. 16 in ESPN’s poll and No. 18 by PrepVolleyball.com.
Plant returns key member’s from last year’s 6A state championship team, namely outside hitter and Georgetown commit Alex Johnson, Troy commit and middle blocker Paige Tuttle, outside hitter Tina Catanach and libero Charlotte Hill. Berkeley returns 2009 Class 3A Player of the Year and All-American junior outside hitter Jordan Burgess, junior setter/opposite hitter Mackenzie Dagostino and senior libero Natasha Rowland.
