Piscitelli To Kick?

Posted Sep 25, 2008 by Roy Cummings

TAMPA – The Bucs are formulating contingency plans should kicker Matt Bryant not play Sunday, including possibly using S Sabby Piscitelli as their kicker.

“He’s our backup kicker right now,’’ Bucs coach Jon Gruden said of Piscitelli after Thursday’s practice.

Using Piscitelli is only one option. The Bucs are also contemplating signing another kicker, but Gruden said their plan is to wait until the last possible minute to make a call on that.

The likelihood is the Bucs will wait until Saturday to sign a kicker. They worked a trio of them just a few weeks ago, when Bryant was struggling with his kicks during the preseason.

Bryant has missed the last two days of practice following the unexpected death early Wednesday of his infant son Matthew Tryson.

Go Sabby Go!  You can cover hit and now kick Go Sabby Go!  I hope he does well if he gets it.  I wonder if I can get him for my Fantasy team.  Anyways, I’m praying for you Matt come back and win this team a championship.

let Matt take as much time away as he needs, pay him during it and guarantee his spot when he is set to come back.

I think everyone’s heart goes out to Matt and his family. As delicate as this sitiation is I hope that the Bucs front office shows some class in handling the crisis. Not just the Bucs but many employers have a tendency to forget about compassion at times like this.

I hope they don’t sign another kicker. I dont care if we lose because Sabby has to kick. Sabby can kick, hes not bad.

Signing another kicker would be kinda depressing on bryants part. Seeing some random free agent guy come in and take his job in a depressing time.

LET SABBY KICK!!!!!!

I think Bryant will be dressed & ready to go on Sunday. He is in a difficult place right now, but knows he has a great responsibility to his team-mates. This will take time like any loss of a loved one, but the sooner you get back on the Horse, the faster your heart will heal. This will also allow all of the Fans to show him real support on the field too. Playing on Sunday will be a very positive thing for Matt & inspirational for the team. I hope they start the game with an Invocation or Prayer. They should lead a prayer before every home game, like NASCAR does & also bless Our Soldiers. Go Bucs.

some things are bigger than the game. i say take all the time u need bryant. we do need a good kicker desperately, and u epitomize that. but this is a serious issue, and it needs to be taken care of. stay w/ your family and console and console yourself. like i said some things are bigger than the game. my all of the bucs fans pray for u.

If this weren’t a home game, I don’t think there would be any way Bryant could play.  We’ll see.  Do all of you remember Favre’s performance right after his Dad died?  I hope Bryant comes out and plays for his son’s memory, but obviously understand if he needs more time to grieve.  We all want Bryant back.  He is one of the all around good guys to have on your team.  He’ll be back.  I wouldn’t worry about that.
I guess Sabby is Superman.  This guy could probably play anywhere on D except the line and kick?  Can he throw?

duh, jon ... are you sure about that? ask Vince Young what he thinks.

too many times the front office (and the fans) just look at it as a business. tell me if Matt took two weeks off and whom ever they brought in to kick hit 3 or 4 +50 yd field goals and his kick % is 100 that there won’t be talk of keeping him. if you say that it would never happen you are being naive .. in fact weren’t they thinking of replacing Matt just a few weeks back? ... which i why i say guarantee his spot on the team, dont drop the ball this time.

bill, if you had any clue how to form coherent sentences, maybe I could figure out who or what you’re criticizing or praising.  I would just say, don’t criticize unless you can write at at least a 9th grade level.
The Bucs looked at other kickers during Bryant’s terrible preseason.  He has had a great regular season and won’t lose his job over this.  You may hate Gruden and Allen, but they aren’t that cruel.  I doubt it, but Bryant could call it quits.  I have no clue how the man will react to this tragedy.

ref813 - sorry if you can’t read. if you would like i can personally break it down for you and explain every sentence.
line 1, front office, business .. pretty self explanatory.
line 2, old kicker out, new kicker in kicking lights out, people yell to keep new kicker .. pretty self explanatory.
line 3, Bucs looked at kickers right before game 1, game one was 3-4 weeks ago .. thats a few weeks back is it not?

for the record, i’m 30 years removed from 9th grade with two BS degrees and working towards a masters. i actually like Gruden and Allen and think they are then best thing that happened to this franchise. i’m sorry if your reading level is not that advanced, i will keep that in mind for future posts

Hey ref813, did you read the same post from Bill that I just read? I don’t have any idea why you could not understand it unless you were just trying to start trouble on here which is just not a cool thing to do. You may not like someones opinion but that doesn’t give you the right to attack them on a personal level. That’s just being childish.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bryants

Bill, your final paragraph in your new posting is perfectly coherent.  I don’t know if I’m the only one who had trouble with the 2nd and last sentences in the 1st posting, but it is nowhere close to proper grammar:
tell me if Matt took two weeks off and whom ever they brought in to kick hit 3 or 4 +50 yd field goals and his kick % is 100 that there won’t be talk of keeping him. which i why i say guarantee his spot on the team, dont drop the ball this time.
That is supposed to be clear?

ref813, not a problem it’s all good. I was trying to type that up between doing things at work. i meant if Matt sits out this week or the next two weeks and the kicker they bring in hits every kick including 3 or 4 kicks from over 50 yards you know some people will be crying to keep the new kicker. that’s just the nature of the business and that’s what i don’t want to see happen.

Por (ref813) on September 27, 2008 (Suggest removal)

Michael, I don’t try to start trouble.  I honestly had no clue what he was saying with the poor grammar and symbols mixed in.  I read it quickly and had no clue what his point was.  Reading it again, I still can’t say it’s clear.  If he used a comma or something, maybe it would be easier to decipher in a quick reading.
Bill, I don’t care about your degrees.  They aren’t in English or a writing-intensive field, if you get away with that.  I recently got my J.D., so I’m used to reading complete sentences with proper grammar.  Sorry if I’m not used to putting fragments and punctuation-lacking “sentences” together.  I forget a comma here and there, but come on.

Por (ref813) on September 27, 2008 (Suggest removal)

Bill, there you are.  I just typed that other one.  You are perfectly capable of expressing yourself clearly when you want to.  I read these things quickly, so it’s hard to understand you when you don’t use commas and other punctuation to separate clauses.  It’s understandable since you were in a hurry.  I just wouldn’t blame someone else for having trouble reading that, when you just admitted that you threw it together at work.  That’s about it.
We may not even need a kicker this week, since they may be lacking their whole starting secondary.

That would be good for sabby cause everytime he is in at a safety spot they pick on him…
