Armwood senior shortstop Zack Powers was selected in the 28th round (837th overall) by the Pittsburgh Pirates in Tuesday’s MLB draft.
Powers, who helped the Hawks reach the Class 5A state title game this season, hit .411 with seven doubles, three home runs and 18 RBIs in 2010. He also was a big force on the mound, going 8-1 with a 1.51 ERA.
Powers, who has signed a scholarship with the University of Florida, is the fourth Hillsborough County senior to be selected in the draft.

So exciting for Zack. Can’t wait to see what he decides to do. Either way, I will be cheering him on. I’m originally from Ohio, but I was always a Pitts fan so it was great for Zack to get the nod from the Pirates. Way to go ZPO… love ya, gram
