Jason Pierre-Paul already has a suit picked out, but he is still waiting on an invitation from the NFL to attend the draft at Radio City Music Hall in New York on April 22.
As of Tuesday evening, NFL.com reported nine top NFL prospects had confirmed they will attend the draft, the latest being Clemson RB C.J. Spiller. The others: Nebraska DT Ndamukong Suh, Oklahoma DT Gerald McCoy and OT Trent Williams, Oklahoma State OT Russell Okung, Georgia Tech DE Derrick Morgan, Tennessee S Eric Berry and DT Dan Williams, and Penn State DT Jared Odrick.
Drew Rosenhaus, Pierre-Paul’s agent, expects Pierre-Paul to receive an invitation considering his high draft stock.
“I’ll be stunned if he’s not in the top 10,’’ Rosenhaus said.
Pierre-Paul plans to be in New York on April 22 if he has reason to be.
“Hopefully,’’ he said. “It depends on if they invite me or not.’’
Based on latest draft projections, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Pierre-Paul continues to garner a lot of attention.
He is projected by draftcountdown.com to go to the Jaguars at No. 10. ESPN’s scouting service has him ranked the fourth overall prospect in the draft.
He was watched closely by everyone in attendance at Pro Day on Tuesday, impressing with his raw natural ability.
“I just came out here and did what I had to do,’’ Pierre-Paul said, adding that he didn’t feel there was anything specific he needed to prove after impressing scouts at the NFL combine with 4.64 and 4.69 times in the 40.
“I think it helped me a lot,’’ he said. “They didn’t expect me to run that.’’
