The University of South Florida’s coaching search took another hit Monday when South Alabama coach John Pelphrey said he is no longer a candidate.
“I am not a candidate for any job,” Pelphrey told the Mobile (Ala.) Press-Register Monday.
In the past two days, the only two current coaches USF AD Doug Woolard interviewed - Winthrop’s Gregg Marshall and Pelphrey - both have indicated they are not interested in USF.
To paraphrase Henny Youngman: “Take the USF job, please!”
The only others to interview are former coaches Pete Gillen and Fran Fraschilla.

How about Stan Heath? He was just let go at Arkansas. He did a good job at knet state and got arkansas in the tourney this year…even though they didnt deserve an at large bid

Tom Moore, UConn assistant head coach. Four of Calhoun’s ex-assistants took their teams to the NCAA this year. Moore has spent 10 years at UConn, including two national championships. He’s ready.

I like the thought of the Arkansas head coach. I believe he has had 20+ wins in the last two seasons. Brett, what is your honest guest about who will be coaching in the SunDome next season??

Doug Woolard should contact Chris Lowery, the head coach at Southern Illinois. He would be great for the Bulls. However, I believe he is looking at a more prestigious school than USF.

Here are two prospects that should be considered…
Eastern Kentucky’s Jeff Neubauer, coached three years under John Beilein at West Virginia.
Appalacian State’s Houston Fancher
Wasn’t Stan Heath just fired? Why would we want him? Supposedly he’s a good recruiter, good with players, but a horrible bench coach.
No to Stan Heath. I would rather have Frank Martin from Kansas State. He has ties to Florida.

Why are we interviewing Franschilla? He is imo a scummy coach who brought down the SJU program. Why not go after a good Christian gentleman to coach the team. Stan Heath or Louie Orr would be great guys to lead this team, and would be excellent leaders like our beloved Tony Dungy.
