Wiregrass Ranch coach Chris Loth announced Monday that runner Sam Hippely verbally committed to the University of West Florida on a partial athletic scholarship, while teammate David Hill also committed to Saint Leo University.

“Sam Hippely tonight verbally committed to becoming an Argonaut at the University of West Florida on a partial athletic scholarship!” Loth said in an e-mail to the Tampa Tribune.

Hippely, a Pasco Tribune all county first-team selection, was second in the district, 26th at state and also won the Sunshine Athletic Conference individual title. Hippely also holds the school record time for the 5,000m (16:02). Hippely and Hill, a Pasco Tribune second team selection, helped lead the Bulls to sixth at the Class 3A state meet and their third straight Sunshine Athletic Conference title.
