Tampa Tribune columnist Martin Fennelly writes on the front page of today’s Tribune about the opportunity ahead for USF QB B.J. Daniels
“One dream ends, another begins.
Last month, Matt Grothe sat in a locker at Raymond James Stadium during South Florida media day and talked about what lay ahead — one last year of college football, those first cracks at Florida State and Miami and again chasing that elusive Big East title.
“I just want to play well, have fun and enjoy my senior season,” Grothe said.
It ended on the sod Saturday night at the same stadium. The greatest offensive force in South Florida history, who helped write so much history, clutched his wrecked left knee.
The redshirt freshman who replaced him threw a long touchdown six plays later. But for B.J. Daniels, it really begins Saturday with his first start. The Tallahassee native will face Florida State in Doak Campbell Stadium.
You can’t write an opening chapter like that. And you never want to write an ending like the ending to Matt Grothe’s career.”
