Jordan Omogbehin, a 7-foot-3 center out of Virginia’s Atlantic Shores Christian who was part of USF men’s basketball coach Stan Heath’s 2011-12 recruiting class, may attend a prep school this fall after not obtaining required entrance exam scores for initial NCAA eligibility.
USF learned of the academic situation toward the end of the summer, but is appealing to the NCAA on behalf of Omogbehin. The appeal centers around Omogbehin’s transition from Nigeria to the United States, and his work in the classroom at USF this summer, when he did well taking 12 credit hours after being conditionally accepted into the university.
Should the appeal be denied, Omogbehin is likely to stay near USF and attend Faith Baptist, a prep school located in Brandon, where he could work on his improving his test scores.
If Omogbehin does attend a prep school this fall and improves his scores, he could join USF as a mid-year transfer in January or wait until the following fall. However, he could also choose to sign with another Division I program, as the original letter-of-intent he signed with the Bulls would be voided.
