OL Jones Arrested On Three Felony Charges

Tampa Bay Storm offensive lineman Kenyatta Jones was arrested late Wednesday afternoon on three felony drug purchasing charges, according to a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

According to the arrest report, Jones was arrested on an outstanding warrant on two counts of purchasing cocaine and one count of purchasing marijuana. He is currently being held in the Orient Road Jail with bond set at $45,000. Jones was arrested in connection with a five-month drug probe conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies.

Jones, a former player with the University of South Florida who had stints in the NFL with the New England Patriots and the Washington Redskins, was a rookie with the Storm in 2008. He earned a starting job on the offensive line during training camp and played in the first nine games of the season. An injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

“Kenyatta Jones is currenlty on the roster and we are very concerned as these are serious accusations,” Storm spokesperson Jim Robinson said on behalf of the team. “We are currently gathering information and will comment further at a later time.”

This is not Jones’ first run-in with the law as a member of the Storm. On March 31, during the season, Jones was arrested at the Blue Martini Night Club in Tampa on three charges - felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and obstructing or opposing an officer with violence, and a misdemeanor count of trespassing. The disposition of that case was not available.

He wasted everything he has worked hard for. Drugs really do make our lives miserable.

Matt, the blog post was provided by Adam Adkins, our Storm writer. But considering Jones won a Super Bowl ring, played at USF and was charged with three felonies as part of a huge city wide drug sting, I think it’s newsworthy on a USF blog. This blog has never been a police blotter of former athletes. I think this is an exception. Also when you say Jones isn’t a current USF athlete, does that mean if he does well in NFL/AFL you don’t care? By your definition, he’s old news. And I have not written one story about Fisher’s legal woes since Leavitt said he was no longer part of the team.

Kenyatta Jones hasn’t played a down of football for USF in over seven years.  Why this is on the USF blog in 2008 baffles me.  There’s no shortage of other USF stories right now, both positive and negative, that are far more relevant.

My $0.02… this blog should be about USF Athletics and not a police blotter for has beens.  When can I expect the next Brian Fisher update?

This guy got chance after chance and he has let everyone of them go to waste.  He was such a great player for us, but this is ridiculous.
