Billy Turner just can’t stay away from the game.

The former Chamberlain and Hillsborough High football coach, the winningest ever in Hillsborough County with over 250 wins, has been hanging around the Sickles program this fall, where his son Brian, is the quarterbacks coach. Turner has been pulling players aside to offer advice. Brian said he’s also asked his father to help him with film and the playbook.

Turner, 71, retired this spring after 30 years at Chamberlain.

On Friday, when Sickles plays at Gaither, Billy will sit up in the press box to offer insight.

“I don’t know if he’ll do it every week, but he’s doing it this week,” Brian said. “He’ll just recognize fronts for me. I’d be crazy not to do it. He’s my mentor.”

Brian said Billy was at Sickles three-team Kickoff Classic with Freedom and Alonso last Friday.

“He can watch a play and tell you what everybody did,” Brian said. “A lot of guys can’t do it. A lot of guys watch the ball.”
